Inspiring a Mental Health Renaissance on International Women's Day

On International Women's Day, we celebrate the strength and resilience of women across the globe. At RefuSHE, we are proud to continually offer our own community of young women opportunities to learn, grow, and become resilient leaders.

RefuSHE's work is rights-based, trauma-informed, and girl-centered.

That means our lens is shaped by the experiences, development, and rights of the girls and young women we serve. It also means our programs are designed to decrease the negative effects of trauma experienced by refugee girls and young women through mentorship, community healing, and individualized support.

RefuSHE is a leader in offering mental health services to young refugees as part of this holistic model of care. Our approach has always been rooted in the health and safety of both the body and the mind. However, since our founding, enormous strides have been made in the fields of psychology and neuroscience. We know more about the brain and the emotional and physical effects of trauma.

Today, we are poised to improve the mental health services we offer our community of refugee girls and young women by creating new initiatives that are innovative, culturally-competent, and based on the latest scientific research.

We hope to reinforce the necessity of trauma-informed solutions, particularly for refugees, because we believe mental health is a vital component of holistic care. In the theme of International Women’s Day 2021, we are “choosing to challenge” the norms we’ve built as a global community around mental health care and refugee rights. A challenged world is an alert world and from challenge comes change.

As we improve our own support services and fill a gap in existing mental health research, we will also continue to raise awareness about the impact that mental health has on refugees' ability to thrive and prosper around the world. We look forward to sharing the results of this critical work with you and hope you’ll join us as we #ChooseToChallenge our global approach to mental health care and service delivery for refugees.

To provide the best possible mental health outcomes to the refugee girls in our care, we need your support.

If you are inspired by our commitment to deepen and improve the mental health care services we offer our community of refugee girls and young women, we encourage you to give today and support RefuSHE's holistic model.

Your donation is a direct investment in the health, safety, and future of refugee girls.
