Welcoming RefuSHE's New Executive Director!
Dear RefuSHE friends and supporters,
As we begin a new decade and a new year, I would like to share an exciting update with you.
On behalf of the Kenya Board of Directors and the U.S. Board, I’m delighted to announce the appointment of Geoffrey Thige as RefuSHE Kenya’s Executive Director. In May of 2019, Geoffrey was appointed by the Kenya Board of Directors as Interim Chief Operations Officer, where he excelled in strengthening and streamlining our programs and operations to ensure efficiency and excellence.
Geoffrey comes to RefuSHE having previously served as the Operations Director at Vision Fund Kenya and the Chief Operating Officer at Opportunity International Kenya. He has over 20 years of executive leadership experience in the global development and micro-finance sectors in Kenya. Geoffrey holds a MSc in Entrepreneurship from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, as well as an MBA from the University of Nairobi.
In his role as Executive Director, Geoffrey will serve as RefuSHE’s country lead in Kenya, overseeing all operations and programming, working to grow our partnerships in Kenya and the region. I’m excited to partner with Geoffrey and work to further the organization’s mission to protect, educate, and empower orphaned, unaccompanied, and separated refugee girls and young women.
It has been an absolute pleasure collaborating with Geoffrey over the past six months. In addition to being an outstanding global expert in operations and finance, his humility, candor, and compassion has brought new and inspiring energy to our team in Kenya. He’s also been able to quickly connect with the young women and children we serve. He makes time to sit in on classes – you can find him giving impromptu pop-quizzes and reviews on campus to help our students prepare for their exams. As a father himself, Geoffrey feels compelled to do more to provide our girls with the support, education, and advocacy they need to thrive.
The RefuSHE team, both in Chicago and Nairobi, is thrilled to be working alongside Geoffrey to propel the organization forward during its second decade of impact. Please join us in welcoming Geoffrey as RefuSHE’s new Executive Director!
Cheers,
Jailan Adly
CEO
