RefuSHE Receives $500K Grant From #startsmall
We are thrilled to announce that RefuSHE has received a $500,000 grant from Jack Dorsey’s philanthropic initiative, #startsmall, to support refugee girls’ education and entrepreneurship in Nairobi!
#startsmall is Jack Dorsey’s philanthropic initiative to fund global crisis relief, girls’ health and education, and open internet development. Dorsey—Block Head, Chairman and co-founder of Block, Inc.—transferred $1 billion (28% of his wealth) to #startsmall in 2020.
The grant from #startsmall will further RefuSHE‘s mission to protect, educate, and empower refugee girls, women, and children through a unique, holistic model of care.
“RefuSHE’s three core interventions – Safe House, Girls Empowerment Program (GEP), and Community-Based Protection & Livelihoods – address the unique needs of refugee girls and women as they transition from displacement to durable solutions,” said RefuSHE CEO Helen Altshul. “We are grateful to #startsmall for helping us deepen and expand our vocational training and workforce development interventions for young refugee women.”
With the support of #startsmall, RefuSHE will strengthen its impact in refugee communities across Nairobi and fortify the organization’s long-term organizational stability.
