RefuSHE Welcomes New Board Member

RefuSHE is thrilled to announce the appointment of new US Board Member, Heidi Novogratz-Johnson!

A lifelong resident of the Midwest, Heidi has volunteered with RefuSHE for more than three years and is a current member of RefuSHE’s Global Ambassadors. In addition to being a committed donor, Heidi has supported RefuSHE in a number of capacities, including hosting fundraising events in her home, sponsoring Artisan Collective scarf sales at craft markets, and sourcing silent auction items for our annual Fashion Challenge event. She recently visited our campus in Nairobi in September 2022.

“I first learned about RefuSHE when I viewed the hand-dyed scarves the young women in their program crafted. The scarf is the perfect accessory, so I was curious to know more about the creator(s) behind them. These young refugee women and their children overcome adversity and achieve greatness thanks to RefuSHE's holistic model based on education, empowerment, and entrepreneurship. I am proud to serve on the Board of Directors and be involved in an organization that transforms lives by valuing dignity and respect.”

- Heidi Novogratz-Johnson

With many years of experience guiding her family foundation’s grants, particularly in issues related to racial justice and health, Heidi will complement and strengthen the current makeup of our boards. An active volunteer, she has supported a number of organizations in Chicago over the last two decades and has a growing interest in engaging more fully with a social justice enterprise focused on young women’s dignity and growth. We are looking forward to learning from and leading alongside her to further our mission to protect, educate, and empower refugee girls and young women.

"I am pleased to welcome Heidi to RefuSHE's Board of Directors. Heidi brings a unique background and perspective and will make a tremendous impact on our Board."
